Hal Leonard Publishes Music Marketing for the DIY Musician

Creating and Executing a Plan of Attack on a Low Budget

Montclair, NJ (August 21, 2014) - Hal Leonard Books, the musician’s best source of books on the music business, audio technology, instrument history, and more, has published Music Marketing for the DIY Musician, by Bobby Borg. This new book is designed for serious musicians as a strategic, step-by-step guide to producing a fully customized, low budget plan to market their music at a time when new technologies make it possible to attract attention independently and leverage their own careers.

“Bobby’s systematic, practical approach to marketing will give DIY musicians the edge they need to break through the clutter,” said Don Gorder, Chair, Music Business/Management Department at Berklee College of Music. “He clearly understands the entrepreneurial side of a successful career in the new music business, and this book provides the pathways.”

Written in a conversational tone with samples, examples, expert Q&A and graphics, Music Marketing for the DIY Musician book is the culmination of the Borg’s 25 years in the trenches as a musician and entrepreneur, and over a decade in academic and practical research involving thousands of independent artists and marketing experts from around the world. His experience reveals a systematic business approach employing the same tools and techniques used by innovative top companies, while always encouraging musicians to stay true to their artistic integrity. The goal is to help musical artists take control of their own destiny, save time and money, and eventually draw the full attention of top music industry professionals.

“Bobby Borg is a DIY music marketing genius!” adds Nance Rosen, author of Speak Up! and former marketing executive with the Coca-Cola Company. “In Music Marketing for the DIY Musician, he intelligently lays out exactly how you should approach your career as an independent artist, because he’s truly mastered every dimension of the process: researching, goal-setting, branding, pricing, distributing, promoting, and executing.”
